SHERBORNE JUNIORS 2008
The Junior section is run by a committee which includes the Junior Captain and meets about 10 times a year.
Committee members are :
John McGovern, Junior organiser
John Tuke, President
Colin Edwards, Secretary
Richard Whiston
Mike Sandy
Nigel Blackmore
Shay Cornford, Ladies representative
James O’Brien. Competitions and Coaching
Tom Clarke, Junior Captain
The Club Chairman, Captain, Manager and Professional are closely involved with the running of the Junior section and are always welcomed to meetings.
There are currently in excess of 60 Junior members. There is no limit on numbers.
Lessons take place on Saturday mornings in groups. Contact the Pro’s shop for details. These are also attended by future junior members.
The section is in a transition stage as many of the best golfers are now over 18 and have therefore moved on to adult membership.
I am sure that Tom Clarke and his Vice Captain, Tom Blackmore, will be involved in putting together teams for various competitions. The first one of note is a competition at Bramshaw in the New Forest for a team of four of mixed ability to include one with a handicap of 10 or less and at least one with a handicap of 20 plus. This event is only open to the Clubs which have reciprocal playing arrangements with them ( 10 teams in total of which we are one!).
The committee are looking at trips to Wentworth for the BMW PGA competition on Sat 24th May and/or The Welsh Open at Celtic Manor on Sat 31st May. The first date clashes with Bramshaw and the second with our Mens Open. Travel by minibus as before, or cars if numbers do not justify the extra capacity. Cost for Juniors will, I hope, be not more than £10 towards hire of transport etc. Entry for under 16s is free at both venues.
Please watch the Junior notice board for all information. Start times for competitions will be in the Club Diary on the website. Other details will be under the Junior Section.
Please feel free to contact any member of the committee for advice and information as appropriate. We are always open to any suggestions or comments you want to make.
Happy Golfing.
